New residents must live in the state for at least 20 days in order to vote in an election. Voters can register up to 20 days prior to an election at county courthouses, public libraries and other designated locations throughout the metropolitan area, or as part of a driver's license application.
Registrations are also conducted at the polls on Election Day with a valid Minnesota driver's license, Minnesota identification card with a current address or a valid passport (a receipt for either type of card is also valid, with a current utility bill with name and current address).
Without valid identification, a resident may still register if accompanied by a registered voter in the precinct who will sign an oath to vouch that the new voter lives in the area.
For information about registration and polling locations, call your city or county elections offices.
